Christmas Time IS here
Dec. 28th, 2010 09:06 amSo, a quick back-dated (shhhh!) Christmas post.
It was a wonderful cascade of days. Thursday was dancing. Friday was cleaning and last-minute shopping and wrapping -- successfully and not that stressfully done. :) Saturday was the party at Soto's house: lots of fun. We were late but well-provisioned -- a common occurrence for my family en masse, unfortunately. Logan is still a hoot and a good instigator of silliness while keeping balance. I don't think Russell's family quite understood the grab-bag before they came, but they seemed to have fun as well. Russell's grandfather talked my Mum's ear off in a aww-talkative-old-guy sort of way and Russell's dad does not keep with all this hurrumph!silliness. XD Good night followed by midnight mass with an untrained choir and a clearly Filipino priest. That was interesting, to say the least, and it made me want to volunteer to help the choir. :\ Considering my singing ability is mediocre at best . . .
Christmas this year was different. We had a brunch with the rest of the extended family at Grandma's house first. So we (re)met some of the cousins' boyfriends. I like one of them a lot. He's easy-going, nice, and conversational. The other is a bit more of a stoner skater boy. And we did a quick gift exchange. I got some candles and picture frames. The candle holders can SO be reused for other candles after I burn them down! Score!
The we came home and unwrapped our own presents. So, we weren't in our pjs, but Dad was still snapping pictures and the kids were divvying out presents for the correct person to unwrap. It was nice. I received a candy thermometer (with instructions in French and an early warning system for when it gets to temp!), bunch of stocking stuffers (soap and whatnot), a fudge-making set and storage boxes from Soto, a cute Year of the Rabbit bell and display set, The Cake Eaters (a movie I have not heard of, but has an interesting title -- it's a romance, I think), Edward Gorey postcard books (I'm torn between wanting to send them to people and guarding them ferociously), and drum roll, please . . . : the most unanticipated and unexpected gift of this year A NintendoDSi with Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What the where?! :D OMG! Sis and I have become semi-obsessed with the game. It's a quest/puzzle game and, while we don't play it EVERY second of the day, it's pretty close. And we compare notes and solutions and what bits and pieces we've collected of the tea ingredients or camera parts or whatnot. I also have been playing with the camera and voice manipulation programs. So fun! Apparently, Sis withOUT her glasses and I have a 45% chance of being siblings. XD I wonder what Soto and I will get.
Merry Christmas, everyone!
